AAIP reaches 2025 provincial nomination quota

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Programme (AAIP) has officially reached its full nomination quota for 2025 after issuing the final Invitations to Apply (ITA) for provincial nomination.

After reaching the announced quota of 6,741, it is likely that no further provincial nomination invitations will be issued.

The final invitation round, announced as an addition, focused on healthcare professionals.

After conducting these final two rounds, Alberta updated its official “Processing Information” page to note that the full quota had been reached.

AAIP 2025 nomination allocation

This year, the AAIP began with 4,875 nominations, but after an increase of 1,728 spots, it ended the year with a total of 6,603 nomination spots.

Although allocated 6,603 nominations, the programme issued 6,750 nominations – noting the issuance of some nominations slightly exceeding the administrative limit Express Entry provided by the federal government.

Note that although the AAIP announced a 2025 nomination quota of 6,741 spots, the total number of nominations issued based on the allocation reached 6,750.

These nominations were issued through a total of 77 announcement rounds, which is the highest number of rounds that any Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) conducted in 2025.

In 2025, Alberta held the following number of rounds by category:

• 12 rounds through Alberta Opportunity Stream.
• 2 rounds through rural renewal stream.
• 11 rounds through the Dedicated Health Care Pathway (Express Entry linked)
• 11 rounds through the Dedicated Health Care Pathway (non-Express Entry)
• 3 rounds through the Tourism and Hospitality Stream.
• 38 rounds passed Alberta Express Entry Stream.

Although Alberta Express Entry stream draws occur most frequently, the majority of invitations are issued through the Alberta Opportunity Stream.

Alberta’s 2025 priority sectors for the Express Entry stream include construction, agriculture, and aviation, alongside three pathways within this stream:

• Dedicated Healthcare Pathway;
• Technology pathway; and
• Law enforcement pathway.

At the time of writing, the province still has 1,479 applications pending, the majority of which fall under the Alberta Opportunity Stream.

Furthermore, there are currently 45,622 expressions of interest (EOI) in the selection queue – the majority of which are also for consideration under the Alberta Opportunity Stream.

The AAIP has not yet announced the 2026 nomination quota, nor which occupations or sectors will be prioritised.

Changes to the AAIP in 2025

The AAIP announced several changes to the provincial immigration programme throughout 2025. Below are the changes that have taken place:

• 27/02: From this date onwards, candidates must respond to AAIP information requests via the “Update Employment Information” tab in the AAIP portal for most streams, rather than via email.
• 17/03: Alberta withdrew its decision to participate in the federal government’s temporary public policy aimed at facilitating open work permits for potential provincial nominee candidates.
• 17/03: The AAIP announced that candidates will no longer be invited through the Family Connection and Occupation in Demand pathways of the Express Entry stream, but candidates may still claim points for having a qualifying family connection.
• 1 April: The AAIP increased application fees for various streams, including its worker streams and the Farm Stream for applications submitted from that date onwards – alongside other fee increases.
  • Labour streams: from $840 to $1,500.
  • Farm Stream: from $500 to $3,500.
  • Nomination certificate reissue fee: from $100 to $150.
• 01/04: The AAIP began accepting the Pearson Test of English (PTE) Core to meet language requirements for applications submitted to all streams from this date onwards.
• 18 November: Eligibility changes to the Rural Renewal Stream were announced, requiring candidates in Canada to hold a valid work permit and removing eligibility for lower-skilled workers (TEER 4 or 5) residing outside Alberta – alongside other changes.
  • These changes will take effect from 01/01/2026.
