British Columbia issues 437 BC PNP invitations to high economic impact candidates in the 14 May 2026 draw

The province of British Columbia issued 437 invitations to apply (ITAs) to candidates under the Innovate: High Economic Impact category on 14 May 2026, according to information published by theBritish Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP)on the WelcomeBC portal.

This was the fifth BC PNP draw of 2026 in theSkills Immigration (SI)category and the first since the province announced its programme overhaul on 23 April 2026.

Allocation of invitations

Figures on WelcomeBC show the 437 invitations were split almost evenly between two selection criteria, with 51.5% going to the salary and job offer group:

This criterion sits within the “Innovate” stream — one of the three core pillars of the Care, Build, Innovate framework that British Columbia adopted in April 2026. The Innovate stream targets professionals and creative talent across a range of occupations, with the aim of making the province a leading destination for international talent.

Selection criteria may differ in future draws

According to the BC PNP, future High Economic Impact draws may draw on different criteria, including: level of education (level, field and place of completion); professional certification within the province; length and skill level of work experience; language ability; occupation; the salary and skill level of the job offer; intention to live and work in a particular region; and strategic priorities aligned with the province’s labour needs or its projects and initiatives.

Comparison with earlier SI draws this year

The 14 May draw was British Columbia’s third largest SI round of 2026:

The 6 May draw targeted specific occupations: 117 ITAs for healthcare, 86 ITAs for early childhood education (NOC 42202), 121 ITAs for construction trades and 9 ITAs for veterinary care. By 14 May, the BC PNP had issued a total of 2,143 invitations through the SI stream in 2026.

Size of the registration pool

As of 6 May 2026, the SI registration pool held a total of 9,967 profiles. The most common score band was 100–109, accounting for 21.1% of all registrations:

Alongside the SI stream, the BC PNP has also held eight Entrepreneur Immigration draws this year, issuing no fewer than 49 invitations in total across five Base Stream and three Regional Stream rounds.

The selection process

According to the BC PNP, candidates seeking to immigrate through the SI stream must first register under a specific stream. Registrations are then scored against human capital and economic factors, up to a maximum of 200 points, and placed in the pool. The province periodically selects the candidates best able to meet its economic and labour needs and issues them an invitation to apply for nomination. A registration is valid for 12 months, after which the candidate must register again.

Those who receive a provincial nomination then file a permanent residence application with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to complete the process.
