YNP Express Entry (YEE)

Candidates who are eligible for the federal Express Entry pool and interested in living and working in Yukon may apply to the Yukon Express Entry (YEE) stream.

Yukon added the Express Entry stream to its existing immigration programmes in March 2015. The stream allows the territory to nominate individuals who are already in the pool ofExpress Entrycategory of theImmigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and who have the education, skilled work experience, language ability and other attributes to help them settle successfully and integrate into Yukon’s labour market and communities.

Overview of Yukon Express Entry (YEE)

To enter the federal Express Entry pool, candidates must be eligible for 1 of the 3 federal economic immigration programmes:

• Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
• Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
• Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

Candidates who meet all the eligibility requirements of 1 of these 3 federal programmes must begin by creating an Express Entry profile on the IRCC website.

Based on the information the candidate provides, their profile is scored under theComprehensive Ranking System (CRS)and the highest-scoring profiles are invited to submit an Application for Permanent Residence (APR). Receiving a nomination from a province or territory adds 600 CRS points to a candidate’s score, greatly increasing their chances of being invited to submit an Application for Permanent Residence.

Benefits for employers

The Express Entry system helps employers meet acute labour shortages with skilled foreign workers where they cannot find a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to fill vacancies for full-time, permanent work, despite reasonable recruitment efforts.

Express Entry gives employers greater flexibility than other immigration programmes. With the YEE, employers can take advantage of improvements to the Canada Job Bank, an online search tool that connects prospective immigrants with employers and jobs in Canada on the basis of their skills, knowledge and experience.

Employers using the YEE do not have to apply for anLabour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)or pay travel costs for the foreign worker.

Benefits for individuals

Express Entry helps eligible prospective economic immigrants find permanent work in Yukon where employers cannot find a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to fill vacancies. Candidates receive priority processing under Express Entry and most obtain permanent residence within 6 months of their complete application being verified.

Minimum requirements

To be eligible for the Yukon Express Entry stream, candidates must:

• Meet the requirements of one of the three federal economic immigration programmes;
• Complete the online Express Entry registration to obtain a Profile Number and, where applicable, a Job Seeker Validation Code;
• Have sufficient proof offunds to support themselvesand any accompanying family members in Canada;
• The amount required depends on the candidate’s family size, as set by IRCC.
• Have a validjob offerfor full-time, permanent work from an eligible Yukon employer;
• Have a genuine intention to live and work in Yukon.

The YEE application and nomination process

A valid job offer from an eligible Yukon employer triggers a YNP nomination for the Express Entry (EE) candidate and then anInvitation to Apply (ITA)from IRCC for permanent residence.

There are 10 steps in the YEE application and nomination process, as follows:

1. The employer finds a suitable skilled foreign worker.
2. The employer makes a job offer to the foreign national after demonstrating that no Canadian citizen or permanent resident is available and/or suitable for the position.
3. The worker meets the requirements of one of the three federal economic immigration programmes.
4. The worker completes the online registration in the IRCC Express Entry system and enters the Express Entry pool. The worker receives an Express Entry Profile Number and, where applicable, a Job Seeker Validation Code.
5. The worker demonstrates that they have sufficient proof of funds.
6. The employer and worker jointly complete and submit the Yukon Express Entry registration form.
7. The worker receives an Invitation to Apply (ITA) from IRCC.
8. The worker provides all the required documents to IRCC to complete the Application for Permanent Residence (APR).
9. IRCC and the Yukon Immigration Unit verify the worker’s documents.
10. The worker receives permanent residence.
