- Applicants do not usually need a medical examination for entry, unless they intend to work in certain occupations (see below).

Medical requirements for entry to Canada for more than 6 months
Applicants will need a medical examination where they:
- Have stayed continuously for 6 months or more in one or more countries or territories listed as “YES” in the list below, within the year immediately preceding the date on which they wish to enter Canada. (This applies even where the applicant is a citizen of a country that needs no visa to enter Canada.)
- Will be coming to Canada to work in an occupation requiring the protection of public health. See below for the jobs requiring a medical examination.
- Are applying for aSuper Visa for parents and grandparents.
Medical examinations for entry to Canada
Individuals working in certain occupations must undergo a medical examination, whatever the length of their intended stay in Canada. The list of these occupations includes:
- Workers in the health sciences.
- Clinical laboratory workers.
- Patient care workers in nursing and elderly care homes.
- Medical students accepted into Canada for university study.
- Medical interns and doctors working on a short-term basis.
- Primary or secondary school teachers, and teachers of young children.
- Domestic workers.
- Home care workers for children, older people and people with disabilities.
- Nursery staff.
- Other similar occupations.
