Dual citizenship, or dual nationality, is a legal status in which an individual is simultaneously a citizen of two different countries and enjoys rights from both.
Not every country recognises dual citizenship. Some nations require citizens to renounce their original nationality upon naturalising elsewhere, while many others allow them to be held in parallel. Understanding the regulations of both countries involved is essential.
Dual citizenship offers many benefits: greater freedom of movement and residence, multinational business and investment opportunities, access to the education and healthcare systems of two countries, and a flexible contingency plan for the family.
The majority of citizenship by investment programmes in the Caribbean and Europe allow investors to hold dual citizenship, which is the core appeal of these programmes for international investors.
