AAIP Farm Stream

The Alberta Farm Stream of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) aims to attract farm owner-operators who plan to live in the province of Alberta in order to buy and manage their agricultural business.

About the Alberta Farm Stream

The Alberta Farm Stream of theAlberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)assesses candidates’ eligibility by working closely withAlberta Agriculture and Forestry.

To be considered for immigration to the province of Alberta under this stream, candidates must intend to establish an agricultural business in the province of Alberta and must demonstrate farm management skills as well as sufficient financial resources to invest in a primary production agricultural business in the province of Alberta.

Requirements

Alberta Farm Stream candidates must meet the following minimum requirements to be eligible to apply to this stream:

Demonstrate that they have farm management skills, with:

• Financial documents for their existing farm business.
• Evidence of education, training and work experience.
• A proposed business plan describing the agricultural business in the province of Alberta they intend to operate.
• Demonstrate that a Canadian financial institution is willing to finance their farming operation in the province of Alberta.

Demonstrate that they have sufficient financial resources for this venture:

• Be able to invest a minimum of CAD 500,000 of their own equity in a primary production agricultural business in the province of Alberta.
• Show a minimum net worth of CAD 500,000, or confirmation of access to equivalent funds from other sources.

Please note:CAD 500,000 is the minimum investment amount. A larger sum may be required to demonstrate investment capacity.

Demonstrate that they will invest in a primary production agricultural business in the province of Alberta:

• Record the intention to invest in the proposed business plan.
• The Alberta provincial government gives priority to applications showing the greatest growth opportunity against Alberta’s agri-food objectives.

Attend an in-person interview with a representative of the Alberta provincial government, who determines their eligibility under the Alberta Farm Stream of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP).

Ineligible applicants

Candidates under the Alberta Farm Stream of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) are not eligible to apply if they are:

• Asylum claimants, or if they are engaged in a federal appeal or removal process.
• Live-in caregivers currently residing in Canada.
• Temporary workers working and residing in a province other than the province of Alberta.
• International students studying in Canada, including where they are completing a work placement or internship forming part of their programme of study.
