The Household Living-costs Price Indexes (HLPIs), published by Stats NZ, measure inflation affecting 13 different household groups and the average group.

Unlike the CPI, which measures national inflation, HLPIs include mortgage interest payments and credit card interest, reflecting actual costs.

In the September 2025 quarter, HLPIs rose by 2.4%, lower than the 3.0% CPI, thanks to a 14.3% decrease in interest rates. HLPIs provide a detailed view of inflation's impact on superannuitants, benefit recipients, and high/low-spending households.
