CECR

CECR, an abbreviation for Cadre européen commun de référence pour les langues (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), is an international standard developed by the Council of Europe to describe and assess the language proficiency of learners. Introduced in 2001, the CECR provides a scale from A1 (the most basic) to C2 (the most proficient), helping to evaluate listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in any language, including English, French, and many others.

The CECR is widely used in education, language testing, and immigration in many countries, including Canada and European nations. In the context of Canadian immigration, the CECR is used to compare scores from tests such as IELTS, CELPIP, TEF, and TEFaQ with national language proficiency levels, such as the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB). The CECR helps ensure transparency and consistency when assessing language ability, supporting international study, work, and migration.
